Section 2
Portfolio Summary
Portfolio Summary provides a top-level view of the portfolio, along with recommended portfolio management actions (for risk mitigation, yield enhancement, or both).
-
Market context
Broad market context provided through traded ETFs for major market indices: SPY (S&P 500), QQQ (Nasdaq 100), and DIA (Dow Jones Industrial Average).
-
Account and view selector
Toggle between single-account and all-accounts summary views.
-
Performance report
Provides a detailed performance report tailored to options-income strategies.
-
Optimize collateral
Identifies any zero-interest cash that broker collateral rules permit to move into a designated interest-bearing cash equivalent, as well as cash-equivalent (or regular stock) shares that should be sold to meet any cash requirement currently on the account.
-
Outstanding orders
Switch between treating pending orders as not-executed (button "OFF", with gold colored markings on the screen) to treating pending orders as executed (button "ON", with purple markings on screen). When OFF (gold), any totals and other values on screen are their current, true values. When ON (purple), totals and other values on screen are what they would be if all orders were executed.
-
Refresh
Refetches positions from the broker and rebuilds the selected Summary view.
-
Stock or Stock & long options
Market value of ordinary shares, plus long option value when long options are present (whether on their own or as part of a spread).
-
Available cash or Leverage
Cash and Cash Equivalents (CCE) NOT currently pledged as collateral for sold puts, and therefore available to be pledged for new trades. If the full underlier amount across all short puts in the portfolio exceeds the CCE in the portfolio, the bar is a negative value (extends downward from the zero line), and is labelled as Leverage.
-
Pledged cash
The full underlier amount across all short puts in the portfolio. Green shading represents the current yield of the different trades that make up the bar.
-
Risk of Assign
The current market value of all short options, both puts and calls. This is a negative value, consistent with the idea that it represents a liability against a portfolio otherwise consisting of assets. It's also the approximate cost you'd incur to completely eliminate the liability, or in other words the approximate cost to close all your short option positions.
-
Account value and today’s change
Total account value, followed by the current session change in dollars and percent.
-
Available-cash yield
Annual yield on the unpledged CCE slice.
-
Pledged-cash yield
A weighted average of each short put’s current yield (sometimes referred to as yield-if-held).
Yield if held uses remaining option time value through expiration, plus cash-equivalent yield on any eligible collateral (if any), and presents the result as an annualized yield or rate.
-
Combined yield
Weighted blend of yields on available and pledged cash.
When the account is leveraged, the pledged yield simply carries through and becomes the "combined" yield.
-
Cash utilization
Pledged cash divided by CCE. Below 100% indicates unpledged capacity; above 100% indicates leverage exists in the portfolio.
-
Guided Workflows
This simple dashboard highlights items worth looking at in the portfolio. Tap a tile to begin a workflow, with a step-by-step guide. Virtually all YieldGen activities can be done through these guided workflows, or you may choose to go directly to other YieldGen screens as you get familiar with the steps, or if you just want to view your exposures ahead of any actions.
- Pledge cash (sell puts). This is the centerpiece and usual starting point of options-income investing, selling put options to generate yield. The workflow takes you through the steps of selecting the contract and sizing the trade.
- Optimize capital. This workflow highlights positions whose remaining available return may not justify the capital tied up as collateral for the position. Closing such positions frees up the capital for higher yields.
- Pledge shares (sell calls). This workflow identifies unpledged blocks of 100 or more shares available for covered calls, and takes you through the steps of selling calls, with full visibility on your "implied recovery" (of capital) for any strike and expiration.
- Other actions. Groups additional yield- or risk-related items, with a variety of guided workflows from there, depending on the item.
